The left is phony, a clerisy suffering from Tourette's Syndrome, the bourgeois tool of neoliberalism: Brexit fascists! Trump fascists! Yellow vest fascists! Trucker fascists!

 Tom Slater, here

Essentially every time working-class people have revolted against the establishment in recent years the left has joined with the centrists to denounce them as fascists. The Brexit vote? Fascists! The Trump revolt? Super fascists! The gilets jaunes? French fascists! It’s like a tic at this point, a form of political Tourette’s bred of the left’s profound disorientation. ... today’s leftists are so cloistered, so bourgeois, so much more comfortable in the faculty lounge than on the factory floor, that they not only can’t lead these revolts, they really don’t want to. ... Supposed radicals – up to their eyeballs in divisive intersectionalist politics – have become the useful idiots of a neoliberal ruling class keen to put voters firmly back in their place . . ..

England's Brexit party has gone off the rails just like Trump

It's like the two "movements", in reality just evanescent phenomena, upon discovering their political power went straight for the aisle where the stupid pills are kept and bought every last bottle.

John Simon Bercow quits as UK Commons Speaker after 10 years in the job

Commons Speaker John Bercow expressed his displeasure at Parliament’s suspension, saying “this is not a standard or normal prorogation.”

“It’s one of the longest for decades and it represents an act of executive fiat,” he said. ...

Bercow, whose control of business in the House of Commons has made him a central player in the Brexit drama, announced he would step down after a decade in the job.

The colorful speaker, famous for his loud ties and even louder cries of “Order!” during raucous debates, told lawmakers he will quit the same day Britain is due to leave the EU, Oct. 31.

Throughout the three years since Britain voted to leave the EU, Bercow has angered the Conservative government by repeatedly allowing lawmakers to seize control of Parliament’s agenda to steer the course of Brexit.

He said he was simply fulfilling his role of being the “backbenchers’ backstop” and letting Parliament have its say.

“Throughout my time as speaker, I have sought to increase the relative authority of this legislature, for which I will make absolutely no apology,” he said.

John Cleese's three words to sum up why England had to Brexit: Jean-Claude Juncker

John Cleese defiant as he says ‘London ISN’T an English city’, sparking Twitter storm:

The Fawlty Towers star has openly supported Brexit and previously referred to the country’s debate as “one of the most depressing things about this country”. ...

John also previously insisted he doesn’t believe Brexit is a “mistake”. He told the Radio Times: “I’m rather delighted that all these forecasts of doom and destruction have turned out, at this point, not to have been real.” And elaborating on his reasons why he voted Leave, he added: “I don’t want to be ruled by Brussels bureaucrats who want to create a super state. “I was pro-Brexit for that reason. “If I had three words to sum up why we had to get out of Europe, they would be: Jean-Claude Juncker.”

Theresa May to resign as UK Prime Minister on June 7

With no Brexit withdrawal arrangement agreed, the prospect of the U.K. suffering a disorderly exit from the European Union now appears to be a more likely outcome. Britain and Northern Ireland’s official departure date from the European Union is October 31, 2019.

John Gray: The possibility that millions value some things more than economic gain is not considered by the British political classes

Sounds oddly familiar.

Brexit has left the British political class trapped by its own history:

Persistently denying respect to Leave voters in this way can only bring to Britain the dangerous populism that is steadily marching across the European continent.

No, not The Onion: New political party forms in the realm which gave us rum, sodomy and the lash, calls itself CUK

Short for Change UK, formed on the day when Brexit was finally supposed to occur.

Apparently their idea of change is no change, as in no Brexit.

Looks like the woman in the center realizes their mistake, but that's probably just wishful thinking.

Any seat in Parliament kept by one of these in the next election one wag says will constitute a CUK-hold, but they all already have made cucks of the people of the UK they represent. It is an odd fetish, thankfully, enjoyed by but few, less than 2% of the UK's constituencies.

British Prime Minister Theresa May's soft Brexit, agreed to by EU, defeated in Parliament 432-202

UK leader Theresa May suffers resounding defeat on her Brexit divorce deal:

May’s proposed “Withdrawal Agreement” was agreed with EU leaders in November last year. ... It’s reportedly the largest defeat for a sitting government in U.K. political history. Despite the result, and expressing a defiant tone, May told lawmakers that she wanted to show those who voted leave the EU that it was her “duty to deliver” on Brexit. ... On June 23, 2016, voters in the U.K. favored leaving the EU by 51.9 percent. The U.K. is legally set to leave the political and trading bloc on March 29.

In Nigel Farage's mind the rioters in France are the Tommy Robinsonites who co-opted his UKIP

Feelings of bitterness can overpower reason and cause one to engage in false equivalencies, as in blaming the American Revolution on the Presbyterians.

Things haven't changed much.

BREXIT is the new chartered right of Englishmen. Unfortunately for them the result of the democratic process matters as little to the duly elected government of Britain as colonial representation mattered to George III.

Nigel is nothing if not a loyalist.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em: Hillary now laughably blames fear of immigrants for her loss, says Europe must curb immigration, thinks the people crave tyranny!

Now we're sure she's a drunk.

Both Clintons used to say this crap about immigration to America back in ancient times when they ruled in Washington, even as they did NOTHING to reduce the levels of legal immigration into the United States, levels which were dramatically ramped up by their predecessor, George Herbert Walker Bush.

They don't give a damn about Americans. Immigration is only a problem to them because it puts the wrong people in power.

“I think Europe needs to get a handle on migration because that is what lit the flame,” Clinton said, speaking as part of a series of interviews with senior centrist political figures about the rise of populists, particularly on the right, in Europe and the Americas.

“I admire the very generous and compassionate approaches that were taken particularly by leaders like Angela Merkel, but I think it is fair to say Europe has done its part, and must send a very clear message – ‘we are not going to be able to continue provide refuge and support’ – because if we don’t deal with the migration issue it will continue to roil the body politic.” ...

Clinton urged forces opposed to rightwing populism in Europe and the US not to neglect the concerns about race and identity issues that she says were behind her losing key votes in 2016. She accused Trump of exploiting the issue in the election contest – and in office. ...

“The whole American system was designed so that you would eliminate the threat from a strong, authoritarian king or other leader and maybe people are just tired of it. They don’t want that much responsibility and freedom. They want to be told what to do and where to go and how to live … and only given one version of reality.

Italy's Matteo Salvini: The EU are swindlers

Quoted here:

“My experience in the European parliament tells me you either impose yourself or they swindle you.”

“There is no objectivity or good faith from the European side.”
